History: The Volkswagen Schwimmwagen (Type 166) was the most widely produced amphibious car in history, with over 14,000 built between 1942 and 1944. Used extensively by German forces on the Eastern and Western fronts, it combined off-road capability with amphibious operation, thanks to its 4WD system and retractable propeller. The Schwimmwagen could reach speeds of around 50 mph (80 km/h) on land and 6 mph (10 km/h) in water, making it a valuable reconnaissance and liaison vehicle in varied terrain.
