Tamiya Plastic Model Kit
German Schwimmwagen Type 166 (1/35) 35224
This 1/35 scale Tamiya kit recreates the German Schwimmwagen Type 166, the most widely produced amphibious car of WWII. Based on the Volkswagen design by Dr. Ferdinand Porsche, the Type 166 was engineered for reconnaissance, liaison, and support duties across varied terrain, including rivers and coastal areas.
- Detailed recreation of the amphibious hull and distinctive high-set exhaust pipe.
- Includes parts to model both land and water configurations, with functional screw propeller assembly.
- Accurately moulded interior, engine compartment, and driver’s position.
- Optional stowage and accessories to add realism.
Powered by a rear-mounted, air-cooled 1,130cc engine producing 25 horsepower, the Schwimmwagen could reach 80km/h on land and 10km/h on water. Over 14,000 were built between 1942 and 1944, serving across multiple fronts where their amphibious capabilities proved invaluable.
