History
Introduced in late 1944, the Jagdtiger was Germany’s ultimate tank destroyer, designed to counter increasingly heavy Allied armour. Based on the Tiger II chassis, it mounted the formidable 12.8cm Pak 44 gun, capable of destroying any Allied tank at extreme range. Although nearly impervious to frontal attack, its enormous weight reduced mobility and strained its mechanical reliability. Deployed mainly on the Western Front by the 653rd and 512th Heavy Tank Battalions, the Jagdtiger saw limited production with only around 79 units built. Despite its battlefield shortcomings, it remains an iconic example of late-war German armoured engineering.
