History
The Leclerc main battle tank entered French Army service in 1992 and quickly established itself as one of the most advanced tanks in the world. Named after General Philippe Leclerc, a hero of the Free French Forces, the tank was designed for mobility, protection and firepower. The Series 2 variant featured modular composite armour, digital battlefield integration systems, and a 120mm smoothbore gun with autoloader. Powered by a compact 1,500hp diesel engine and fitted with hydropneumatic suspension, the Leclerc excelled in both urban and open terrain operations. Although it never saw large-scale combat, it played a key role in deterrence and NATO operations into the 21st century.
