Tamiya Marder III (1/48)
This 1/48 scale Tamiya model kit recreates the German Marder III, a highly effective WWII tank destroyer based on the Czech-built Panzer 38(t) chassis. In June 1941, German forces encountered Soviet T-34 and KV-1 tanks that outclassed their own armour. As an interim solution, obsolete 38(t) chassis were fitted with captured Soviet 7.62cm Pak36(r) guns, resulting in the Marder III. First deployed in North Africa in early 1942, these vehicles quickly proved their worth and saw service across multiple fronts.
- Highly detailed 1/48 scale assembly kit of the Marder III
- Accurate open-top fighting compartment with simplified yet realistic parts layout
- Detailed hull and gun assembly designed for ease of construction
- Assembly-type tracks with one-piece straight sections for easier build
- Includes one crew figure in winter uniform
- Four marking options covering North Africa and Eastern Front units
- Metal chassis weight adds realistic heft
The Marder III was valued for its mobility, firepower, and adaptability. Between February 1942 and November 1943, a total of 363 units were built, enabling German forces to counter the armoured threat on both the Eastern Front and in the deserts of North Africa. Despite its light armour and open top leaving crews vulnerable, the Marder III’s 7.62cm gun could destroy heavily armoured enemy tanks at long range, making it a feared opponent in WWII armoured warfare.
