History:
The North American F-51D Mustang was an updated designation for the P-51D following the formation of the United States Air Force. Though seemingly destined for retirement with the rise of jets, the F-51D returned to action during the Korean War due to its operational flexibility and effectiveness in close air support roles. It performed heroically in the early years of the war, offering precision ground attack capabilities and reliable performance from basic forward airstrips. Its versatility and combat record extended the life of this legendary aircraft well beyond WWII.
