Tamiya Plastic Model Kit
Tamiya Renault 5 Turbo Rally (1/24)
The Tamiya Renault 5 Turbo Rally is a 1/24 scale plastic model kit capturing the aggressive stance and rally-bred design of the legendary Renault 5 Turbo. Originally developed for Group 4 rally competition, this car transformed the humble Renault 5 hatchback into a mid-engined powerhouse with lightweight aluminium and composite body panels. Its 1.4-litre inline-4 turbocharged engine, mounted behind the driver, delivered outstanding handling and performance, making it a force to be reckoned with in early 1980s rally stages.
This detailed kit includes updated decals and accurately recreates the distinctive features of the rally version, such as large front spotlights, wide fender flares, and a reinforced roll cage. Realistic synthetic rubber tyres add authenticity, while the interior features finely rendered dashboard, racing seats, and full rally equipment. History:
The Renault 5 Turbo Rally was introduced in 1980 as part of Renault’s effort to dominate the World Rally Championship. Designed by Bertone, it featured radical changes from the standard Renault 5, including a rear mid-engine layout, widened track, and flared bodywork. Producing around 160 horsepower in its road-going form—and much more in competition spec—the car was quick, nimble, and highly competitive. It achieved its greatest success in 1981 when Jean Ragnotti drove it to victory in the Monte Carlo Rally, immediately cementing its place in rallying history. Today, the Renault 5 Turbo remains a cult classic, celebrated for its bold design, thrilling performance, and motorsport pedigree.
