Tamiya Plastic Model Kit
Russian JSU-152 (1/35) 35303
This 1/35 scale Tamiya model kit recreates the Russian JSU-152 heavy self-propelled gun, a formidable vehicle based on the JS-2 heavy tank chassis. Designed to counter Germany’s most powerful tanks, it housed the ML-20S 152mm howitzer in a simple yet robust superstructure, capable of delivering devastating direct and indirect fire. The kit accurately captures its low profile, heavy armour, and distinctive gun, making it a centrepiece for late-WWII Soviet armour dioramas.
- Highly detailed exterior with accurately moulded armour plates and weld seams.
- Faithful reproduction of the ML-20S 152mm howitzer.
- Optional open or closed hatches for added display flexibility.
- Realistic track and running gear detail.
- Markings to depict vehicles from key Eastern Front battles.
History
The JSU-152 was developed in 1943 to provide the Red Army with a weapon capable of neutralising heavily armoured German tanks such as the Tiger I and Panther, as well as fortified positions. Built on the proven JS-2 chassis, it featured thicker armour than its predecessors and mounted the powerful 152mm ML-20S howitzer. Capable of penetrating 120mm of armour at 1km and demolishing reinforced structures, the JSU-152 made its combat debut at the Battle of Kursk and gained fame during Operation Bagration in 1944. Its fearsome firepower earned it the nickname “Zveroboy” or “Beast Killer.” Over 4,000 were produced during the war, with continued production into the post-war years, serving in Soviet and allied armies well into the 1970s.
