Sd.Kfz. 232 German Armoured Car
The Sd.Kfz. 232 was one of the most recognisable German heavy armoured cars of the early Second World War. Equipped with the Fu.11 radio set and its distinctive large frame-type antenna, it served as a long-range reconnaissance vehicle in the armoured reconnaissance battalions of Panzer divisions. Armed with a 20mm KwK30 cannon and an MG34 machine gun mounted in its turret, it provided both observation and light fire support roles.
The vehicle’s advanced 8-wheel drive system, coupled with steering for both front and rear axles, gave it exceptional mobility on and off-road. Capable of speeds up to 90km/h, it also had dual driving positions, allowing rapid manoeuvring in either direction. These versatile vehicles saw service from the invasion of Poland through the campaigns in Western Europe, the North African desert, and the Eastern Front, operating as the “eyes and ears” of German armoured forces.
