Tamiya Waterline Series
Tamiya Shimakaze (1/700)
This 1/700 scale model kit recreates the Imperial Japanese Navy’s destroyer Shimakaze, one of the most advanced and unique warships of her time. Commissioned in 1943, Shimakaze was the only ship of her class and was famed for her extraordinary speed, reaching up to 40.9 knots, powered by a high-output 75,000hp propulsion system. Armed with three quintuple torpedo launchers and a formidable suite of anti-aircraft weaponry, she was intended as a prototype for a new class of high-speed destroyers. Despite her potential, Shimakaze remained a one-off and was sunk in the Battle of Ormoc Bay in November 1944.
