History:
First entering service in late 1942, the Tiger I was designed to counter increasingly well-armoured Soviet tanks such as the T-34 and KV series. Its combination of thick armour and the powerful 88mm KwK 36 gun made it a formidable foe on the battlefield. Deployed in small numbers due to its complexity and cost, the Tiger I nonetheless had a psychological and tactical impact far beyond its production figures.
