History:
First entering service in late 1942, the Tiger I was designed to counter increasingly well-armoured Soviet tanks such as the T-34 and KV series. Its combination of thick armour and the powerful 88mm KwK 36 gun made it a formidable foe on the battlefield. Deployed in small numbers due to its complexity and cost, the Tiger I nonetheless had a psychological and tactical impact far beyond its production figures. Early production models featured distinctive features such as drum-style cupolas and large road wheels without overlapping track guards. On the Eastern Front, these tanks were feared by Allied crews, with their ability to destroy enemy armour at ranges where return fire was often ineffective.
