Tamiya 1/48 Military Miniature Series
Tiger I Late Production German Heavy Tank
The German Tiger I Late Production was among the most feared armoured vehicles of the Second World War. Its potent 88mm KwK 36 L/56 main gun could destroy Allied armour at long ranges, while its thick frontal and side armour offered outstanding protection. The late production version introduced several refinements including large steel road wheels with integral rubber rings, an updated turret layout featuring a loader’s periscope, a new commander’s cupola with seven individual periscopes, and centrally relocated ventilators for improved crew comfort.
Entering service in 1944, this version of the Tiger I fought on both the Eastern and Western Fronts, engaging in defensive actions as Germany’s strategic situation deteriorated. Despite its formidable capabilities, mechanical reliability and fuel consumption issues limited its numbers in the field, but its battlefield presence was still a significant morale factor for German forces and a serious threat to the Allies.
