The USS New Jersey (BB-62) was the second ship of the Iowa-class fast battleships, commissioned in 1943. Serving from World War II through the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and into the 1980s, she earned a distinguished service record unmatched by most capital ships. Her combination of speed, heavy armour, and formidable firepower made her a key asset in multiple theatres of war. New Jersey was armed with nine 16-inch guns, twenty 5-inch guns, and extensive anti-aircraft defences, later upgraded with missile systems during modernisations.
