Tamiya Military Miniature Series
Tamiya U.S. M20 Armored Utility Car (1/48)
This 1/48 scale Tamiya kit recreates the U.S. M20 Armored Utility Car, a versatile vehicle used extensively during WWII. Developed from the M8 Greyhound but without its turret, the M20 featured an open-topped superstructure equipped with a .50 caliber Browning M2 heavy machine gun on a ring mount. Its interior carried additional infantry weapons, such as a bazooka, and communications equipment for command roles. Designed for speed and mobility, it could operate effectively in reconnaissance, as an armored personnel carrier, or as a general-purpose cargo vehicle in combat zones.
- Highly detailed 1/48 scale replica with accurate open-top hull design
- Pre-sculpted suspension components for ease of assembly
- Detailed interior including driver and radio-operator positions
- Die-cast chassis for added weight and realistic handling
- Includes two crew figures for added diorama potential
- Two marking options representing WWII U.S. Army service
- Perfect companion to the Tamiya M8 Greyhound kit for comparative displays
First deployed in 1943, the M20 served in both European and Pacific theatres. Its excellent off-road performance, provided by its 6×6 drivetrain, made it a trusted asset in reconnaissance units. The vehicle’s open top allowed for rapid communication and situational awareness, though it also exposed the crew to small arms fire and shrapnel. Even with this vulnerability, the M20 proved invaluable for its speed, versatility, and ability to adapt to multiple roles, remaining in service in some countries for decades after WWII.
