History: Entering service in the early 1960s, the M48A3 was the first variant of the Patton series to feature the improved AVDS-1790-2 diesel engine, offering greater range and reliability. Widely used during the Vietnam War, it provided direct fire support, convoy protection, and base defence. With up to five road wheels per side and reinforced turret stowage, the M48A3 proved adaptable to the challenging jungle terrain. Many were later upgraded to M60 standards, extending their service life well into the Cold War era.
