History:
The Tiger I, officially designated Panzerkampfwagen VI Ausf. E, was introduced in 1942 and quickly became a symbol of German armoured might during the Second World War. Its powerful 88mm KwK 36 L/56 gun and formidable armour made it a dominant force on the battlefield, though its mechanical complexity and weight limited mobility and production numbers. Early production models, such as those represented in this kit, saw action on the Eastern Front and in Europe from mid-1942 through 1943. Michael Wittmann, one of the most well-known tank commanders of the conflict, rose to fame commanding the Tiger I, achieving numerous battlefield successes. The period from July to October 1943 marked the Tiger’s involvement in critical battles such as Kursk and subsequent Eastern Front operations, cementing its place in armoured warfare history. This kit provides modellers the opportunity to recreate not only the legendary machine but also the story of the commander who became synonymous with it.
