Victrix Plastic Model Figures
Rome’s Italian Allied Legions (28mm) VXA009
This 28mm hard plastic set from Victrix represents Rome’s Italian allied legions during the early Republican period. The box includes legionaries clad in a mixture of armour styles along with skirmishing Velites, capturing the diverse appearance of allied forces drawn from Rome’s confederate states and Oscan tribes.
These figures are ideal for recreating Rome’s campaigns against Pyrrhos of Epeiros and during the First and Second Punic Wars. With a few minor conversions, the models can also serve as Samnites or other Oscan peoples—either as Rome’s allies or as Carthaginian mercenaries. The mix of armour and equipment reflects the non-uniform nature of Rome’s socii legions, making this set a versatile addition to your ancient army collection.
The set contains 60 figures: 36 legionaries that can be built as Hastati, Princeps, or Triarii, and 18 light infantry that may be assembled as Velites or earlier Leves. Also included are command figures, optional musicians, and an abundance of parts for customisation. The kit is supported by a range of shield transfers and banner sheets from Little Big Men Studios.

History:
Rome’s Italian allied legions—composed of troops from its confederate allies or sociis—formed a vital part of its early military strength. These allies maintained their own traditions, weaponry, and fighting styles, resulting in units that looked and operated slightly differently from the Roman legions. During the Punic Wars and earlier conflicts with Pyrrhos, these troops served on the flanks of Roman formations, often proving essential in holding the line or turning the tide of battle. Some tribes, such as the Samnites, oscillated between alliance and opposition, contributing to the dynamic and complex landscape of Italic warfare. This Victrix set captures that rich diversity, making it a must-have for any modeller interested in Rome’s early imperial struggles.
