Victrix Plastic Model Figures
Rome’s Legions of the Republic (II) (28mm) VXA008
This 28mm hard plastic set from Victrix represents Republican Roman legionaries equipped with pectoral armour, along with their supporting light infantry, or Velites. The set is ideal for building forces suitable for conflicts such as the Pyrrhic War, the Punic Wars against Carthage, and the Macedonian Wars. With detailed sculpting and versatile components, it also allows you to field Roman troops against tribal foes including Gauls, Iberians, Numidians, and various Italian allies and enemies.
The box includes 60 figures: 36 legionaries that can be assembled as Hastati, Princeps, or Triarii, and 18 light infantry which may be configured as Velites or earlier Leves. Command options include Centurions, standard bearers, and musicians. The set features a vast range of accessories—numerous body and head options, shields, spears, and weapons—providing extensive customisation for your army. It is also supported by Little Big Men Studios shield transfers and banners.
These figures capture the essence of Rome’s citizen-soldier legions before the Marian reforms, making them perfect for both wargaming and historical modelling.

History:
Rome’s early Republican armies were built around the manipular system, a flexible battlefield structure that proved highly effective against varied enemies. The legionaries in this set are outfitted with pectoral armour—simple yet functional protection made from a metal plate worn across the chest. This form of armour was commonly used during the early and middle Republic, particularly during the Punic Wars and campaigns in Greece. Velites, the lightly armed skirmishers, supported the heavy infantry by harassing enemy formations and screening the main line. This Victrix set captures the structure, equipment, and tactical versatility of these armies at a critical point in Roman military evolution.
