History:
The Rus people emerged in Eastern Europe during the early medieval period, heavily influenced by Norse settlers and local Slavic cultures. Known for their fierce raiding and trading along the river systems, they became a dominant force from the 9th century onwards. The Rus warbands were often composed of hardy warriors skilled in forest warfare and surprise attacks, making them formidable opponents in the tangled landscapes of Eastern Europe. Their blend of Viking-style aggression and Slavic tenacity became the foundation for the early Russian principalities and helped shape the future of Eastern European warfare.
