History:
The F-4J Phantom II served as the backbone of US Navy and Marine Corps carrier air wings throughout the 1960s and early 1970s. An evolution of the earlier F-4B, the F-4J featured more powerful J79-GE-10 engines, upgraded radar systems (AN/AWG-10), and revised flight control systems. These improvements enhanced its interception and strike capabilities, making the F-4J a formidable all-weather, carrier-based aircraft.
The F-4J flew combat missions over Vietnam, supporting both air superiority and ground attack roles. It played a critical role in operations like Linebacker and Rolling Thunder, often paired with fighter-bombers or flying CAP (Combat Air Patrol). Despite its lack of an internal gun, the F-4J proved highly capable with missile armament and air-to-ground versatility.
Later variants and upgrades, such as the F-4S, extended the Phantom’s career into the 1980s. The F-4J remains one of the most iconic jets of the Cold War, remembered for its power, payload, and pivotal role in naval aviation history. This Zoukei-Mura kit offers modellers a faithful and intricate recreation of the aircraft that defined an era of jet combat and technological evolution.
