History:
The Mitsubishi J2M3 Raiden, code-named ‘Jack’ by Allied forces, was a land-based interceptor used by the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II. Unlike the agile Zero, the Raiden was designed for speed and high-altitude performance, aiming to counter the growing threat of American B-29 Superfortress bombers.
Equipped with the powerful Nakajima Kasei engine, the J2M3 variant featured improved armament and better high-altitude performance than its predecessors. While it lacked some of the manoeuvrability of earlier Japanese fighters, the Raiden compensated with its straight-line speed and firepower, making it a formidable interceptor in the defence of the Japanese mainland.
Zoukei-Mura’s SWS05 kit brings this aircraft to life with exceptional detail, from the internal airframe structure to the faithfully replicated engine and cockpit. For those passionate about Japanese aviation history, the Raiden offers a rewarding modelling experience and a striking display piece.
