History:
The Sd.Kfz 2 Kettenkrad was one of the most unique and innovative vehicles of the Second World War. Originally developed as a lightweight, air-portable half-track, it combined the front steering of a motorcycle with the rear traction of a tracked vehicle. First produced in 1940 by NSU, the Kettenkrad was designed for airborne troops but proved so practical it was soon deployed across all branches of the Wehrmacht.
The Kettenkrad was powered by a 1.5-litre Opel Olympia engine, capable of reaching 70 km/h on roads and able to tow small artillery or trailers. Its agility and rugged design made it invaluable on the Eastern Front, in North Africa, and even on airfields where it was used to tow aircraft.
Despite its size, it offered exceptional cross-country mobility and could even operate in muddy or snowy conditions where larger vehicles would fail. After the war, some units were used for agricultural and forestry purposes due to their utility and reliability.
Zoukei-Mura’s 1/32 scale kit faithfully reproduces the compact yet highly functional design of the Kettenkrad, complete with fine detail throughout, making it a rewarding build for fans of unique wartime engineering.
